Although not one of their most successful tournaments, the recent Rugby World Cup in Japan did throw a number of Fijian superstar players into the limelight even further than they had been before.

One such player has now shocked the Gallagher Premiership by signing for West Country club Bristol Bears. Semi Radradra will join his new team-mates ahead of the 2020/21 season and in doing so has shunned interest from clubs across both codes in order to settle for Pat Lam’s side.

27 year-old Radradra averaged 100m per game at the World Cup and was one of Fiji’s most lethal weapons scoring a brace of tries against Georgia. Whilst he was playing in the Australian NRL with Paramatta Eagles, he was named as Daily M winger of the year.

When asked about his new signing, Director of Rugby Pat Lam stated:
“There is no doubt that Semi is one of the best players in the world – he’s truly a world class performer and we are so excited about what he can do for the team.’

‘Every top club across both codes on the planet wanted him, so for Bristol to be able to bring in a player of his quality underlines the fantastic work that the club is doing. Semi has clarity about our vision and knows what the club want to achieve. As a person and a player, he is perfect for our culture which places an emphasis on community and high performance.”

In signing for the Bears, Radradra was quoted as saying:

“I visited the world class facilities at Ashton Gate and saw the progress of the new training ground – it’s a fantastic club to be joining with a bright future ahead. I can’t wait to get started and contributing to the Bristol Bears vision.”
