The presence of Namibia Rugby has been a feature of Rugby World Cups since they first qualified in 1999.
They have consistently earned their spot as the African qualifier. The 2019 edition of the Rugby World Cup in Japan is their six successive appearance in World Rugby’s showpiece event. Despite their involvement in six tournaments, Namibia have yet to win a match. The closest they have been to tasting success at a Rugby World Cup was a 16 points to 17 loss to Georgia in the 2015 edition in England.

The Namibians were a lot more competitive than the Italians were expecting. They kept on clawing themselves back into the game and refused to be “put away”. They were certainly not outclassed and showed that the so-called minnows have a place at the Rugby World Cup, especially if they can deliver an upset.

Many pundits were predicting a scoreline closer to the 80 point mark in the Springboks favour. The Namibian team though managed to frustrate the Springboks for long periods during this game
