The European Rugby 2018/19 draws were announced today for the Heineken Champions Cup and Challenge Cup competitions. The draws took place in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Heineken Champions Cup

The Champions Cup, back under the title sponsorship of Heineken, includes both the 2017/8 European winners Leinster and Cardiff Blues. It also sees no Italian side, with only the original Five Nations sides represented this year.

The full draw is as follows:

Pool One features Leinster, Wasps, Toulouse and Bath, who have 11 titles between them. Pool Four also includes two former winners as the lower seeds (Leicester Tigers and Ulster Rugby) as well as last year’s runners up Racing 92 and semi finalists Scarlets.

Challenge Cup

The 2018/19 Challenge Cup contained a very competitive field including seven French Top 14 sides, with heavyweights such as Clermont Auvergne, La Rochelle and Harlequins in the draw.

The full draw is as follows:

There are some highly competitive groups, with Pools One, Two and Three having the potential to be three-way or even four-way battles for qualification.

The Romanian side Timisoara Saracens again appear in the competition. Can they add to their development in 2018/19 Challenge Cup fixtures? And will the newly branded Bristol Bears come out fighting?

European Rugby 2018/19 Draws

The groups are now decided, and the first rounds of fixtures and dates are set to be announced in late July or August. This will start the journey to the finals in Newcastle in May 2019.

But the most important question is…what do you think of the European Rugby 2018/19 draws announced this week? Good, bad, will it advantage any sides.
